CAA Heats Up Palm Springs With Summer Convention

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. –  The dress was casual and the temperature just below the century mark as the California Alarm Association (CAA) held its 2004 Summer Convention from May 13 to 15. Nearly 200 attended the annual event, including an appearance by Security Sales & Integration Publisher Mike Zawinski.
“We really had great fun, yet so much was accomplished,” says CAA President Patty Hartman.

Besides exhibits showing the latest products and other educational sessions, attendees got a chance to honor some of their own and some of the siblings of law enforcement’s finest.

Sharon Elder of the Aliso Viejo, Calif.-based National Monitoring Center (NMC) was recognized for her service to alarm associations at the regional level with the 2004 Mark Schubert Memorial Award.  Elder, a member of the Orange County Alarm Association (OCAA) Board of Directors, helped raise funds for OCAA events. She also helped provide alarm management programs for several cities.

Also awarded at the convention were the recipients of the 7th Annual Youth Scholarship Program held jointly with the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA).
The children of law enforcement officers and firefighters in the state were eligible. Natalie Helfrick, whose father Joseph is with the Sacramento Sherrif’s Department SWAT Team, took the top prize in the state and in Northern California and received $2,500 for college.
