Systems Depot Unleashes Comprehensive Product Catalog
After months of work, electronic security distributor The Systems Depot has completed a comprehensive catalog of all its product offerings.
The 976-page, four-color catalog is organized by product manufacturer with a cross reference to compare products and prices. Aiding dealers’ and installers’ ability to find the products they need quickly, the catalog contains no advertisements.
For more information or to obtain a copy, contact The Systems Depot at (877) 797-3376 or www.thesystemsdepot.com.

HAI Introduces Lighting Control to Its Product Ensemble
Automation and security manufacturer Home Automation Inc. (HAI) is entering the home lighting business with a product that uses a powerline communication method that is being offered as an alternative to X10. HAI has licensed from Powerline Control Systems (PCS) the use of UPB communication technology that will be used in home lighting products HAI plans to introduce by the end of the year.
While also transmitting lighting control data over a home’s existing wiring, UPB differs from X10 in that it is digital instead of analog and works without conditioning like repeaters, filters and blocks. “X-10 is an Achilles heel for home automation. When a professional puts 20 switches in, chances are they’re going to have to do something to get them all to work,” says HAI President Jay McLellan.

Siemens’ New Security Chief Lays Out Battle Plan
Siemens Building Technologies Inc. is no longer interested in installing systems for buildings … it’s interested in installing systems for environments. That’s the assessment of Alan Calegari, who was recently named president of the Security Systems business for Siemens.
“In the past, we were viewing our solution as buildings. Today, we are expanding that and looking more at an overall environment than a building,” Calegari, named to his new position in late October, says. “We are redefining Siemens Building Technologies’ mission altogether.”
Calegari says Siemens plans to make aggressive moves in some vertical markets, especially in supplying systems for hospitals and higher education customers.
