Taylor Swift Tour Sees End of an Era as ‘Tay-gating’ Fans Barred at London Shows
After alleged terror plot surrounding Taylor Swift Eras Tour concerts in Vienna, security ramps up at shows in London.
LONDON — It’s the end of an era for Taylor Swift fans.
Security personnel outside the pop music megastar’s five concerts at Wembley Stadium this week say fans who don’t have tickets won’t be able to engage in so-called “Tay-gating,” a ritual that’s become commonplace during the worldwide Eras Tour.
“Tay-Gating” fans weren’t lucky enough to score seats to see Taylor Swift’s concerts live and in person but have gathered in the thousands outside venues as Tay Tay performs, including a recent crowd that was estimated to be about 40,000 people.
Swift’s five sold-out shows at Wembley Stadium expect to attract 90,000 per night inside the venue, so security officials in the area are doing everything they can to limit the number of people who will be outside during the highly anticipated shows.
Why Taylor Swift Fans See Higher Security in London
The ramped-up security at T-Swizzle’s concerts comes in the wake of a 19-year-old man allegedly pledging allegiance to ISIS-K before plotting to terrorize Taylor Swift concertgoers in Vienna, Austria, this week. Those shows were canceled and the London shows are Swift’s first since the alleged threats.
Austrian officials arrested three suspects, ages 17 to 19, in connection to the threats, according to an ABC News report.
ISIS-K “is considered the greatest external terrorist threat to the continent,” Vladimir Vorokov, the UN undersecretary for counterterrorism, told the UN Security Council Thursday, citing its “intensified” recruitment efforts and array of financial and logistical nodes, the report says.
