Essex Electronics Updates Hand-E-Wave Touchless Access Control Switch

The updated Hand-E-Wave Series now includes manual override to provide touchless access control for emergency egress applications.

CARPINTERIA, Calif. — Essex Electronics, a provider of heavy duty keypads, rugged card readers, programmable access switches and keyless entry access control systems, announces its newly redesigned Hand-E-Wave Series which now includes an optional manual override button.

With an adjustable 2-to-24-inch detection range, touchless activation of the Hand-E-Wave switch can help reduce the spread of viruses, germs, bacteria and infectious diseases commonly found on doors and mechanical switches, according to the company.

“We developed the original Hand-E-Wave seven years ago when the Ebola virus was starting to have an impact on healthcare facilities around the world. Using an advanced doppler radar technology, Hand-E-Wave was originally designed for use in sterile environments such as healthcare facilities, food processing plants and clean rooms. Today with the COVID-19 pandemic, Hand-E-Wave is also being used to replace mechanical push plates in many additional public areas including corporate offices, commercial retail, schools and government facilities.” explains Garrett Kaufman, president of Essex Electronics.

Hand-E-Wave features a stainless steel or white powder coat faceplate and a recessed design the company says makes it easy to clean and sanitize. Visual and selectable audio feedback occurs when motion is detected within the detection zone.

Available in mullion, single and double gang versions, these switches can be customized with black laser marked graphics.

“Adding a manual override option to the new Hand-E-Wave along with fail safe configuration of the locking device provide a touchless solution for emergency egress applications. Incorporating safeguards such as these helps to reduce the spread of highly infectious diseases while focusing on fire code for safety. There is a critical need for reliable touchless solutions for public facilities in nearly every industry today,” Kaufman adds.
