Broadview Wins PDQ Award as Leader in False Alarm Management

The Security Industry Alarm Coalition (SIAC), False Alarm Reduction Association (FARA) and SECURITY SALES & INTEGRATIONhave named Broadview Security as the 2010 Police Dispatch Quality (PDQ) Award winner (covering the 2009 period).

SIAC Executive Director Stan Martin, SSI Editor-in-Chief Scott Goldfine and Gordon Hope, vice president of Honeywell Security and Custom Electronics, which sponsors the award, presented the 5th annual honor to Broadview during the Icebreaker Luncheon at the Electronic Security Exposition (ESX) in Pittsburgh.

Established jointly in 2005 by SIAC, FARA and SSI, the PDQ Award program targets the false alarm issue by recognizing those installing and monitoring companies that follow established industry practices and partner with law enforcement to achieve the highest quality in police dispatch requests. Companies are judged not only on their alarm rate, but also their training, literature, use of industry-recommended practices like Enhanced Call Verification (ECV), use of SIA CP-01 equipment, follow-up with customers, tracking problem accounts and more. Additionally, a police department must be supportive of the award submission and submit a letter confirming the alarm rate and acceptability of the applicant. Applications are scored by three independent judges in 15 different areas.

“Broadview Security submitted a 2-inch-thick binder of supporting entry materials, and although that was impressive it would mean little if the company did demonstrate the effort, commitment and results befitting a PDQ winner,” says Goldfine. “The fact is Broadview has one of the most comprehensive programs PDQ judges have ever evaluated, with a strong emphasis on customer education, permitting and ongoing communications, regimented internal tracking and follow-up procedures, superior training for in-the-field personnel, relationship building with law enforcement, and much more. Congratulations to Broadview for a job so well done.”

Broadview’s winning application centered on its Fort Worth, Texas, region where it posted a police dispatch rate of .40 during 2009, down from .44 the previous year. A letter from the city’s Planning and Development Department read: “Broadview Security routinely contacts the city of Fort Worth to obtain customer permit numbers. In turn, that information enables Broadview’s call center to provide valuable information to the city’s emergency dispatch staff during an alarm event. Providing the city with the customer permit numbers aids our dispatchers in efficiently processing alarm calls, resulting in decreased officer response time.”

The goal of the PDQ program is to raise industry-wide awareness, motivate alarm companies to be proactive and provide models that work for others to follow. The PDQ Award annually recognizes the security company that best demonstrates a proactive, cooperative and successful effort in alarm reduction strategies. This marked the first time the PDQ presentation was held at ESX, following being part of SSI’s SAMMY (Sales & Marketing) Awards event at ISC West in Las Vegas.

Technically, Broadview Security, which is in the process of being integrated into ADT since being acquired earlier this year, is the PDQ’s first two-time winner. The company won as Brink’s Home Security in 2006. Companies that capture the award must wait three years to enter again. Other previous winners include Alarm Detection Systems, Atronic Alarms and Vector Security.

The August issue of SSI will feature an in depth look at Broadview’s award-winning practices.
