Robolliance Initiative Unveiled by Sharp Electronics Corp. at PSA-TEC 2016

The program is focused on autonomous robotics for security and surveillance.

MAHWAH, N.J. — Sharp Electronics Corp. (SEC) announced on Tuesday night the launch of the Robolliance program, which is focused on ground-based security robotics.

The company introduced the program at PSA-TEC 2016 and described Robolliance as “a forum for technology partners and industry experts in robotics, surveillance and security to advance the understanding and awareness of the autonomous robotics marketplace.”

SEC is a U.S. subsidiary of Osaka-based Sharp Corp., a worldwide manufacturing company, which revealed nearly three years ago the inclusion of robotics engineering as a new business area. Since then, the company has introduced to non-U.S. markets such robotic technologies as the Cocorobo for cleaning and the Robohon for communication.

Sharp Laboratories of America (SLA) is said to have been working on autonomous vehicles as part of their business robotics R&D. Meanwhile Sharp Robotics Business (SRBD), a division of SEC, targets growth industries primed for robotic technology, which the company says includes security.

In my 36 years in this space, I’ve seen two or three big game changers that really made an impact on the industry. I believe this (robotics) to be one. – Bill Bozeman, PSA Security Network

“Sharp Electronics Corp. is proud to be a part of Robolliance,” SEC Chairman and President Toshiyuki Osawa said in a statement. “Robolliance gives all participating sponsors the ability to work together as an ecosystem of top-tier technologists, industry specialists and sales channel providers to bring forth vibrant, innovative products and services aptly suited to the changing demands of the security industry. The benefit of collaboration allows each sponsor, like us, to stay focused on their core competencies and collectively enlighten customers on solutions tailored to their needs.”

SEC Vice President & Deputy General Manager Cliff Quiroga says business robotics will play a larger role in the future of automation and how companies operate. “The demands on the security industry, both from a manpower and technological standpoint, are growing exponentially,” Quiroga says. “Robotics is a solution for organizations to expand their surveillance coverage in a safe, reliable way and liberate manpower to focus on the more demanding, intellectual aspects of security.”

Bill Bozeman, president and CEO of PSA Security Network and a sponsor of Robolliance, has high praise for the program: “In my 36 years in this space, I’ve seen two or three big game changers that really made an impact on the industry, really made an impact on the dealer’s P&L. I believe this (robotics) to be one,” he says.

Robolliance will offer every sponsor offline networking and speaking engagement opportunities that will further their interests in robotics, security and surveillance, according to the company.

Security Sales & Integration, the exclusive security trade media sponsor, was on hand for the announcement. “Being the true leading publication to the electronic security industry means always looking out for leading-edge trends and technologies, and more importantly developments that solve real-world security challenges and create opportunities for systems integrators,” says SSI Editor-in-Chief and Associate Publisher Scott Goldfine. “UAVs are right in line with that and will have a profound impact on safety enhancement and force multiplying. SSI is proud to be a charter sponsor of the new Robolliance.”
