ADT Announces Google Home Integration

The integration will allow customers to perform the same functions as the ADT Pulse app, such as arming a security system, through voice commands.

LAS VEGAS — ADT revealed at CES 2018 that it will expand its voice control offering of ADT Pulse automations to Google Home. This means customers will be able to utilize Google Voice Assistant to integrate ADT security automation skills on the platform.

Functions that customers can perform through the ADT Pulse app include arming and disarming their alarm system as well as control
of lighting, locks, thermostats and cameras. ADT announced an integration with Amazon Alexa at last year’s show.

“Once we introduce the integration into the ADT (Pulse security and automation) platform, customers will be able to control the Pulse system through Google Home,” says Robin Stennet, ADT’s vice president for emerging market program strategy.

According to SSI‘s 2017 Residential Security Market Report, 28% of owned homes with a security system own smart speakers with voice assistants. It would be reasonable to assume that people with smart speakers would want the ability to control their security systems using voice commands.

ADT made a number of other announcements at CES this year, including the release of a video doorbell, a family location app and the availability of cybersecurity services for residential customers later in 2018.
