Google Assistant Can Lock the Schlage Sense Deadbolt Upon Request

Schlage has added Google Assistant support to its Sense Smart Deadbolt door lock, which pairs with the company’s WiFi adapter for wireless connectivity and remote access.

CARMEL, Ind. — Schlage, an Allegion brand, has added Google Assistant support to its Sense Smart Deadbolt door lock, which pairs with the company’s WiFi adapter for wireless connectivity and remote access.

The voice assistant functionality, which is now live, was first announced earlier this year at CES. Google Home and Android users will be able to use Assistant to lock their door or ask whether the door is unlocked or not via voice, either by accessing the software through a smart speaker or on a smartphone.

However, the upgrade does not include the ability to unlock the deadbolt with your voice.

The WiFi Adapter allows iOS and Android smartphone users to gain remote access to their lock through the Schlage Sense app with no monthly fee required.

“Schlage has been at the forefront of IoT security solutions since launching the Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt in 2014,” says Rob Martens, vice president of strategy & partnerships, Allegion. “This new integration and functionality is a testament to our ongoing commitment to raise the bar for innovation, convenience and security and to support consumers’ choice of IoT platform.”

The Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt allows users to create up to 30 unique access codes, schedule access codes and review previous activity to identify which codes were used when. Users can also update the device’s settings and check battery life.

The smart locks already work Amazon’s Alexa and Apple’s Siri. Schlage introduced the ability to lock and check the status of your door via Alexa in October and added the ability to unlock it by speaking a pin earlier this month.

The Google Assistant update allows Schlage to better compete with brands such as the August Smart Lock, August Smart Lock Pro and the Kwikset Obsidian, all of which already had Google Assistant compatibility.
