Travelers to Offer Smart Home Kits, Discounted Insurance on Amazon
Subject to terms, Travelers will provide a free Amazon Echo Dot to eligible home insurance customers even if they do not purchase a smart kit.
Smart home kits will be offered at discounted prices for Travelers customers in participating states. Discounted kit installation through Amazon Smart Home Services will be offered where available.
HARTFORD, Conn. — Travelers Companies (NYSE: TRV) is partnering with Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN ) to offer smart home kits as well as insurance and risk management information through the insurance industry’s first digital storefront, Amazon.com/Travelers.
According to the insurer, the smart home kits are designed to help protect homeowners from some of the most common causes of loss, including fire, water and security threats.
The smart home kits include security cameras, water sensors, motion detectors with multisensor capabilities, a smart home hub that wirelessly connects a wide range of smart devices and enables them to work together, and an Amazon Echo Dot.
“Our Amazon digital storefront conveniently brings together smart home devices, installation services, discounts and insurance knowledge in one central location to help our customers and agents manage risk and take a more proactive approach to home safety,” states Michael Klein, executive vice president and president of personal insurance at Travelers.
The smart kits will be offered at discounted prices for Travelers customers in participating states. In addition, discounted kit installation through Amazon Smart Home Services will be offered where available, according to an announcement.
Eligible Travelers home insurance customers will receive a discount on their homeowners’ insurance policies with the purchase of a smart home kit. Consumers interested in a home insurance quote will be directed from the Travelers storefront on Amazon to the company’s website or to an independent insurance agent.
Travelers has also introduced new Alexa skills for billing information and home maintenance tips. Alexa is Amazon’s virtual assistant.
The ‘Travelers’ skill will assist the company’s home insurance policyholders with questions regarding billing and payments. The ‘Travelers Home Central’ skill will provide customers property maintenance and home safety tips.
For example, customers can ask questions such as “Alexa, ask Travelers when my bill is due,” or “Alexa, ask Home Central for a fall home maintenance tip.”
Subject to program terms, Travelers will provide a free Amazon Echo Dot to eligible home insurance customers even if they do not purchase a smart kit.
The free Amazon Echo Dot and the discounts on the smart home kits are currently available to Travelers home insurance customers in California, and Travelers Quantum Home 2.0 customers in Colorado, Missouri and Wisconsin.
More states are expected to be added later this year.
