We continue our 2025 Security Industry Predictions series with George Brody, president of Telguard.
Security Sales & Integration: Without getting into any specific vendors or branded solutions, what technology category or solution area do you see as 2025’s ripest, most profitable growth opportunity for security dealers, installers and integrators? Explain your reasoning.
George Brody: Certainly the communication solutions from the premise to the central monitoring center is a prime market opportunity for dealers, installers and integrators in 2025 and future years.
There are several factors. First is POTS lines are not being maintained, expensive and eventually will be going away. The perfect solution is cellular communications for alarm delivery for both residential and commercial markets.
The latest technology of multi-carrier coverage and capacity provides the Big 3 carriers (AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile) all-in-one units for maximum reliability and the ultimate in communications.
SSI: These days, we’re all hearing a lot about the cloud migration, AI/machine learning, crime deterrence vs. crime reactiveness, etc. Which of these “hot topics” do you think is overplayed? Which ones do you think will truly transform the practice of security integration in the coming years?
Brody: In the cellular communication world, cloud migration are areas of the business that will expand and play an important role for the future. Providing more data to relevant parties in the security chain especially in the commercial market with not only the dealers and central stations but building owners and responders to provide specific information on what is happening at the event.
SSI: On the business and operations side, which single factor (e.g., interest rates, talent-related issues, geopolitical stressors) poses the biggest challenge for the security industry right now? How can business owners mitigate their downside risk?
Brody: It looks like we are over the supply chain crisis and can see signs of macro-economic events playing a role in 2025. But, with new technology, building and retrofits, the security industry again is resilient and provides opportunities for business owners.
SSI: What’s getting better about the security industry these days? What seems to be getting worse and worse?
Brody: Integration and IoT is making the security industry better and more efficient.
SSI: What’s liable to catch some security dealers, installers and integrators off guard in the coming year?
Brody: Be aware of nonstandard and low-cost equipment being marketed as UL or compliant with regulations that are not.
SSI: What’s the single most pressing issue that professionals in the security industry should look to tackle right now?
Brody: Staying on top of the latest technology to drive efficiency and value to their business.
SSI: Finish this sentence: 2025 will be remembered as the year that the security industry…
Brody: … multi-carrier cellular communications becomes the new standard for premise to central station monitoring for the commercial market.
