3 Industry Giants Headline CAA Industry Summit

LAS VEGAS

Security professionals awoke early on Tuesday, March 14 to have breakfast and to hear three key industry players discuss the art of “Taming the Wild, Wild West.” The speaker series, held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, highlighted the California Alarm Association’s (CAA) 2000 Industry Summit.

CAA welcomed speakers Neil Cox, president of SecurityLink from Ameritech; Peter Michel, president and CEO of Brink’s Home Security; and Annette Beck, president and COO of Protection One.

Cox kicked off the series with his presentation “The Last 100 Feet: Capitalizing on Broadband to the Home.” The CEO pointed out the potential size of the home networking market, which utilizes Digital Subscriber Lines (DSL), and the market forces that are driving it. “We are going to spend $6 billion in the next 24 months to make our plan capable of supporting DSL,” notes Cox. “We plan on bringing DSL to 75 percent of our customers.”

Next, Michel discussed the various markets that Brink’s has engaged in, which have fueled the company’s overall growth. Michel also shared his views on what will propel the industry in the future. “I believe [customers] will want more home control-related services,” he says. “They are going to want to utilize the Internet for those services; not only in the way they access information but also in the way they control things remotely.”

Rounding out the speaker series was Beck, who is a newcomer to security.
“Every person who touches our customers makes a difference in setting the perception of our industry,” Beck says. “So, we have to make sure we work together and share information that could help make our industry stronger and better across the country.”
