Dolph: Discover Valuable Training Treasures and Tips

Security Sales & Integration columnist Bob Dolph discusses the value of hands-on training.

This Month’s Treasure Chest

Here are some noteworthy micro events that are sure to benefit your team:

1. ADI Expo Events – Claims to be the industry’s largest one-day training and sales events. Free to industry pros. Check their schedule.

2. Tri-Ed E-Tech Tour – Register to attend the industry’s first E-Technology Tour, a collection of industry videos and your one-stop resource for manufacturer training, product announcements and demos.

3. AVAD’s Annual Opportunity Tour – The big show is getting ready to roll out. Increase your AV knowledge.

4. The Systems Depot Events – A listing of upcoming training events. A great way to learn about new products and become a pro as well.

5. Mike Holt Video –  “Handling students that are behind in class” – This is my “diamond in the rough” pick. Holt is one of my all-time favorite trainers. He is also a National Electrical Code (NEC) expert. It’s always hard conducting training sessions with students of different skill levels. If you don’t teach down to the newbies’ level they may not get it and tune out; if you teach down too far the experienced techs will be bored as well. Make sure that you take a minute and go to the Mike Holt Website. Don’t forget to stop by his Free Resources section.

Holt’s books and courses are illustrated and amazing. If you ever get a chance to attend one of his live training sessions, don’t pass it up. (Trivia: Did you know that Holt is also a professional, award-winning barefoot water skier?)
