Getting to Know SS&I’s Editorial Advisory Board: Merlin Guilbeau, Patty Hartman

Guilbeau Seeks Challenges Within Associations

SILVER SPRING, Md.—Starting out in the security industry as a sales representative, Merlin Guilbeau is now interim executive director of the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA). In addition to his new role at NBFAA, he is also one of Security Sales & Integration‘s Editorial Advisory Board members.

Guilbeau was general manager for Brown’s Security Systems Inc. in Natchitoches, La., before accepting the one-year interim position with the association. Before that, Guilbeau held different positions within NBFAA and has held various positions for security and alarm companies in Louisiana, his home state. He even co-authored the state’s burglar alarm contractors license law.

Hartman Is Avid Association Participant

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.—Holding various positions within Bay Alarm Co. for the past 15 years, Patty Hartman has been active within the security industry since 1982 with the local alarm association.  At that time, one of the Bay Area counties was considering going to no-response. “Some things never change,” she says.

Hartman is still active within the security industry. She is president of the California Alarm Association (CAA) and one of Security Sales & Integration‘s Editorial Advisory Board members. Being an active industry member, Hartman has worked closely with cities on different ordinances, as well as legislative issues.
