ASIS International Warns GSX 2024 Attendees About Housing, Registration Scam
Scammers email potential GSX 2024 attendees regarding event registration and booking hotel rooms for Orlando, Fla., show.
ORLANDO, Fla. — Leading in to one of the security industry’s most popular and well-attended events, organizers of the Global Security Expo (GSX) are warning attendees about a housing scam that could lead to them booking hotel rooms and housing from scammers, also known as “pirates.”
In a post on the event’s home page, ASIS International notes “an entity has been soliciting registration and housing services for GSX 2024” and warns registrants to “beware of emails from @squirehotelbooking.com,” noting MCI is the only housing vendor for the show, scheduled for Sept. 23-25 in central Florida.
“ASIS has no connection with this group and does not endorse, support or guarantee its services,” the post on the GSX homepage says. “ASIS has given no authorization for the email solicitations sent by this group and does not recommend the use of these services.”
How GSX 2024 Attendees Can Fight Scammers
“Scammers target event attendees and exhibitors, claiming to be associated with large events of our size,” the message from ASIS International reads. “We have also been notified by exhibitors of scammers claiming to sell our attendee list. This is a scam—please do not respond.
“We do not sell attendee contact information, nor do we provide it to third-party vendors for distribution. If you ever have concerns about the validity of an offer you receive, please contact us at [email protected],” according to the ASIS International post.
GSX 2024 organizers posted a complete list of the event’s official vendors, noting exhibitors and attendees should consider anyone not included on the list to be a scammer who’s looking to collect information outside of official channels.
