NFPA Forced to Cancel 2020 Conference & Expo in Orlando
The association posted a message from Jim Pauley, NFPA president and CEO, on its website to explain its reasoning behind the cancellation.
The 2021 NFPA Conference & Expo will be held the week of June 21 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.
QUINCY, Mass. — The National Fire Protection Association has cancelled the 2020 NFPA Conference & Expo due to concerns surrounding the novel coronavirus pandemic. The annual event had been scheduled to be held June 15-18 in Orlando, Fla.
Each year the event attracts thousands of fire/life-safety professionals who select among more than 120 educational sessions and special events addressing the latest issues, challenges and trends in the world of fire, electrical and life safety.
The association posted a message from Jim Pauley, NFPA president and CEO, on its website to explain its reasoning behind the cancellation.
“Unfortunately, after endless monitoring of countless data and information sources, we have determined we are not able to hold our event in Florida in June. We also have been listening to our stakeholders — some of whom asked us to not hold the event and others who encouraged us to move forward,” Pauley says.
There are particular activities that occur at the annual event —including the association’s annual meeting and the election of board directors, as well as the Codes and Standards Technical Meeting — that will be facilitated remotely. More details on these activities will be forthcoming.
“We did not arrive at this decision easily or without an abundance of consideration. It is important to us, and it is important to all of you. Just as it has been for more than 100 years, our annual event is a key catalyst to advance fire, life, and electrical safety across the globe,” Pauley explains. “This meeting is where new and updated codes and standards move forward; results from the latest research are revealed; products and services that support prevention and protection are showcased and attendees are provided one of the most productive opportunities to network with peers from across the globe who share the same commitment to reducing loss.”
The 2021 NFPA Conference & Expo will be held the week of June 21 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. The association’s 125-year anniversary will be marked in 2021.
