LAS VEGAS — The electronic security industry’s masses converged at the Venetian Expo March 28-31 for what turned out to be perhaps the busiest ISC West on record. While the official tally was not yet reported as of this writing, with its packed aisles and bustling vendor booths, it appeared likely the industry’s largest and most important show topped 30,000 participants for the first time.

While foot traffic burned up the carpet inside the convention center, outside the venue showgoers received a chilly reception as it was likely the coldest ISC West on record with daytime temperatures in the 50-60s and evenings dipping into the 40s. Regardless, spirits ran high amid an energetic atmosphere that made it easy to forget the past few years of pandemic-induced doldrums. In fact, it seemed in many cases manufacturers were making up for lost time with a large quantity of new introductions.

More than 650 exhibitors were on hand to show their wares to dealers, integrators and other practitioners eager to learn about the latest products and build partnerships. While video surveillance and access control continued to dominate the landscape of new launches and solution enhancements, artificial intelligence was definitely the most buzz-worthy technology throughout. However, AI remains in its preliminary stages as the market attempts to grasp its capabilities and potential.

Evermore product enhancements and expanded feature sets along with deeper integrations were widespread, as were greater access to remote device and systems management. Along with those developments were new designs to ease and speed installations, more user-friendly and aesthetically appealing user interfaces, and additional service opportunities for dealers and integrators to build more recurring revenue streams.

As usual, there were educational sessions, keynotes, social activities and awards surrounding the expo proceedings. Among the latter was Security Sales & Integration‘s SAMMY Awards and Industry Hall of Fame inductions, and the Security Industry Association’s (SIA) New Products & Solutions Awards. It was announced that ISC West 2024 is set for April 9-12
