EPS Security Acquires Competitor to Expand Michigan Customer Base
The acquisition of Video-Tech-Tronics will increase the growing market share of EPS as a leading commercial and residential security provider.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — EPS Security, based here, has acquired former competitor Video-Tech-Tronics (VTT), a provider of integrated security, fire alarm, access control, video surveillance, nurse call, intercom, sound and clock systems.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The deal for VTT brings EPS about 1,500 new business and residential customers. The acquisition includes business operations only; it did not include VTT’s facilities in Comstock Park, Mich., according to an announcement.
The acquisition will bolster the growing market share of EPS as a leading commercial and residential security provider. The newly acquired VTT customers will strengthen EPS Security’s customer base to more than 28,300, making it the largest family-owned security provider in Michigan and among the largest in the United States, the company says.
“VTT’s growth over the past 24 years has been predominantly internal, stemming from the referrals of our client base,” says VTT President Chris Johnson. “We decided to seek this acquisition by a larger company as it will allow us to provide a wider array of high-tech services and products to our customers. It will also offer more opportunity to our employees as they continue their careers.”
VTT will add 13 new employees to the EPS Security team; nine of which are said to be highly skilled security system technicians. The added staff allows the company to be more responsive and efficient for its new and existing customers throughout the state of Michigan.
“Chris Johnson and his outstanding team at VTT are wonderful additions to EPS Security and we are proud to welcome them,” says EPS Security President Kevin Carlson. “VTT has an excellent reputation with their customers and within the community. I could not be more excited about this partnership.”
EPS is one of only a dozen security providers in the U.S. to operate a monitoring center facility that is UL-listed, FM-approved and Five Diamond-certified by The Monitoring Association (TMA, formerly CSAA). The company provides intrusion alarms, fire alarms, access control systems and video surveillance systems to commercial and residential clients in Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.
