One of the more popular categories SSI has online is Mergers and Acquisitions. This past year saw the security industry hit the century mark in number of deals made, and there is still a few weeks left in 2019.
A major theme this year is the rise of private equity firms acquiring security companies. Not only did PE firms make a handful of acquisitions this year, they made deals for big companies, for a lot of money.
The top three deals of the year in terms of transactions saw PE firms spend billions of dollars for Vivint, Anixter and ConnectWise.
Convergint, which led security companies in total number of purchases last year, acquired four companies in 2019 — down from a total of nine in 2018.
ADT came out on top quantity-wise this year with nine acquisitions, many of them for commercial integrators as the company continues to bolster its reborn commercial brand.
Allied Universal had eight acquisitions, with a handful of them for security integrators as the company expands to become a total technology provider.
