Potter Electric Acquires Communications Systems Provider Valcom

Potter says its strategic investment in Valcom will allow the business to expand its engineering, marketing and sales initiatives to drive growth in new applications.

ST. LOUIS — Potter Electric Signal Co. announces it has acquired Valcom, a provider of voice paging intercom, and mass notification communications systems.

The company will become a division within Potter Electric’s portfolio of businesses. Valcom’s management team will continue to lead the company.

Potter says its strategic investment in Valcom will allow the business to expand its engineering, marketing and sales initiatives to drive growth in new applications.

With this acquisition, Potter now offers a portfolio that covers a broad range of emergency communication systems used in commercial projects.

Valcom’s product range of mass notification systems complements Potter Fire and Life Safety Systems as well as TowerIQ’s emergency responder communication systems, according to the company.

For more than 40 years, Roanoke, Va.-based Valcom has been a leader in the development of communications products that relay information rapidly, enabling individuals in various locations throughout an organization to receive relevant instructions in emergency situations, the announcement states.

Valcom enterprise communication systems are said to be especially well-suited for educational, retail and government facilities. From voice paging and intercom to expansive mass notification for emergency situations, Valcom products and software technology are currently used in thousands of businesses, government agencies, school districts, college campuses and transportation hubs around the world.

“The addition of Valcom is a natural fit within the Potter family — our products and channels not only complement each other, but our company cultures and strategies are also closely aligned,” Potter says in its announcement. “Valcom’s products and technology align well with Potter’s areas of investment. More importantly, Valcom and Potter have similar values: passion for the customer, appreciation for our employees and designing innovative products that enhance building and life safety. Both companies have invested in IP and Cloud connected platforms, while maintaining intense focus on quality and reliability in the digital era.”

Valcom will continue current operations as an independent entity, serving existing customers and growing its leadership position in the marketplace, according to the company.
