Mission 500 Charity Softball Game Raises $47K for Disadvantaged Children

Security professionals from across the industry traveled to East Meadow, N.Y., to take part in the event and assist in fund-raising activities.

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — Mission 500, a non-profit charity focusing on the security industry and dedicated to serving the needs of children and communities in crisis, raised $47,000 at its third annual Security Softball Game, held recently at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, N.Y.

About 25 security professionals from across the industry played in the game and also took part in various activities, including a “Back to School Care Pack.” Here’s a look at what the volunteers accomplished:

  • 200 book bags filled with school supplies donated to children attending Title One Schools in the South Bronx. The South Bronx is the poorest congressional district in the United States.
  • $2,500 was donated to the New York Firefighters Burn Center Foundation Children’s Camp, a nonprofit dedicated to the advancement of burn care, research, prevention, education and the proper treatment of burns. The organization sends burn victims under the age of 18 to a camp where they can come together and put their scars aside, while having fun at summer camp.
  • 400 children received school refill kits in Hempstead, N.Y. Mission 500 has partnered with the Salvation Army for this specific distribution. They will distribute the refill kits to children attending Title One School in the community, so that they have the tools they need to succeed in the classroom.
  • $2,500 was donated to a Fire Alarm & Safety program in the Appalachian region, which works to educate impoverished families on fire and carbon monoxide detection and safety.

The remainder of the funds raised will be used toward Mission 500’s regional programming for children in the U.S., including relief for underprivileged children impacted by Hurricane Harvey.
