SDA Security Embraces Efforts of Burn Institute

This past year, SDA joined forces with the Burn Institute, a nonprofit dedicated to reducing burn injuries and deaths. S
DA volunteers took part in several events in support of this organization, including a special Smoke Detector Day during which smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors were installed in the homes of 60 elderly residents. And that was just for starters in what proved to be a busy and fruitful year for members of the San Diego-based security provider, which helped raise several hundred thousand dollars in the communities it serves.

“At SDA Security, we are conducted with the idea of ‘service before self’ ingrained in everything we do,” says SDA Marketing Communications Coordinator Megan O’Neal. “We believe the feeling of security should extend past perimeter walls, and because of this we volunteer our time and resources to help better our community in any way possible.”

That abounding philanthropic spirit was evident in the many entries SSI received for the Best Community Outreach Program. Alas, SAMMY judges have the unenviable responsibility of selecting just one shining example each year to bestow the trophy. However, SDA’s dedication to the communities it serves is something the entire industry can be proud of. The company participated in and sponsored many of the Burn Institute’s fundraising events in 2012. Included was a Firefighter Appreciation Night at Petco Park during a San Diego Padres game. SDA President Shandon Harbour was invited onto the field to kick off the opening ceremony and cheer on a young burn survivor who tossed the ceremonial first pitch.
