National Security Technician Day: Young Tech Turns Near-Tragedy Into Career Calling

Daniel Ramirez’s family home was nearly destroyed by a hurricane. Months later, he was intrigued by a career as a security technician.

The Foundation for Advancing Security Talent (FAST) wrapped up its second annual National Security Technician Day celebration on Tuesday, Jan. 23, but we’re already looking forward to the 2025 edition, continuing our series on the industry’s unsung heroes with another Q&A today.

Let’s learn a little bit more about Daniel Ramirez, 20, security solutions technician at Orlando Emergency Signal. The industry newcomer was fascinated by watching security technicians outfitting his home after a natural disaster uprooted his family’s lives. That curiosity led to a career for Ramirez.

This is the fifth Q&A in our National Security Technician Day series and we plan to keep them going–with your help. If this story or any of the others in the series resonate with you, please let us know who should be the next security technician in the spotlight.

What’s one installation you’ve done that was particularly memorable or made you proud?

Recently, I was part of the installation of a commercial security system for Canine Companions. This installation secured four buildings including kennels, dormitory, training facility and administration offices.

Each building required a separate system, as they are a part of a multi-acre campus with different schedules and requirements for each building. This installation was particularly memorable because of the work that Canine Companions does and I have many animals of my own.

How did you get into the security industry and what do you love most about it?

My family has been a long-time client of Orlando Emergency Signal. In 2022, our home was nearly destroyed by a hurricane. Months later, while a technician was onsite to install a new system, I learned of the employment opportunity with OES.

I have just completed my 13th month working with the company. What I love about this industry is that every day gives me the ability to be out in the field and help to support and secure our local community.
