National Security Technician Day: Alexis Tellez, Intelli-Tec Security Services
Alexis Tellez has continued to grow in his career to his current role as project manager for Intelli-Tec Security Services.
In his more than 20 years in the security industry, Alexis Tellez has continued to grow in his career to his current role as project manager for Intelli-Tec Security Services. The 40-year-old is grateful for those who have helped him advance and is excited to see what’s next.
How did you get into the security industry?
From a young age, I’ve always been fascinated by electronics of all kinds. Back in 2001, fresh out of high school at 18, a family member told me that Intelli-Tec Security was looking for apprentices. Knowing the job involved electronics, I thought it sounded right up my alley— so I applied.
I got the job, and within months, I was hooked. Watching systems come together and learning how to make sensors activate relays to trigger strobes or sounders was nothing short of amazing.
I guess I fell in love with it a little too much because here we are, 24 years later, and I’m still with Intelli-Tec! It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m just as passionate about the work today as I was back then.
What you love about being in the security industry?
What I love most about the security industry is the constant opportunity for growth and learning. The pace of innovation in this field keeps me engaged and motivated— it’s never boring. I enjoy staying ahead of the curve and finding ways to implement cutting-edge solutions that truly make a difference in people’s safety and security.
It’s incredibly rewarding to be part of an industry that’s always evolving and has such a meaningful impact.
What was your most memorable installation with Intelli-Tec Security Systems?
Over the years, I’ve been part of many memorable installations, from intricate Vesda systems to some truly impressive panic rooms. However, one of my all-time favorites was a CCTV installation at a massive McDonald’s in Times Square in New York City.
Standing on top of their iconic marquee in the heart of Times Square, I had the unique experience of installing a pair of PTZ cameras with incredible 26x-40x optical zoom. From the security room, we could monitor everything— from Broadway all the way to 8th Avenue. That’s several New York City blocks!
I was genuinely amazed by the equipment’s performance and the level of coverage we achieved in such a high-profile location. It was an unforgettable project that stands out even after all these years.
