Speco Expands National Accounts Team on West Coast

Steven Currens joins Speco after serving as director of sales for Cernium Corp., a provider of real-time analysis and behavior recognition software.

AMITYVILLE, N.Y. — Speco Technologies announces the hiring of security industry veteran Steven Currens as the latest addition to its national accounts team.

Currens formerly served with DIY video surveillance manufacturer Swann Security as the vice president of sales, retail division. He then joined Cernium Corp., a provider of real-time analysis and behavior recognition software for video surveillance, as director of sales.

While there he worked with key security companies and their monitoring partners, with CheckVideo. Currens is based in California.

“With his extensive background in customer focused sales and support, and his extensive security industry knowledge, we know that Steve will be a great addition to the growing Speco team,” says Dave Williams, director of national accounts, North America. “Our goal continues to be providing outstanding products and support to our dealer partners, and Steven will no doubt help us achieve these goals for our partners.”

Speco Technologies is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2020. The business began as an audio company, which is where the origin of its name came from. Speco is derived from SPEaker COmpany.

In the late eighties, the company transitioned from solely selling audio, to becoming the security company it is today — selling its first camera and DVR in 1988.

Speco Technologies has been a family owned and operated company since 1974, when Louis Keller, a Speco rep and board member, purchased the business. It is now owned by both of Keller’s children, Todd and Rhonda Keller Mutterperl.
