PSA Keynote: Niche Players Are in Demand: May 7-11, St. Charles, Ill.

The physical security market’s torrid pace of mergers and acquisitions is not expected to slow down anytime soon. That’s what USBX Advisory Services CEO John Mack told systems integrators who attended his keynote presentation at PSA Security Network’s TEC 2007 May 7-11 in St. Charles, Ill.

Mack provided an overview of the M&A market, noting that private companies are typically worth more than public and that financial sponsors have been outbidding strategies in deals less than $250 million. He added that the security industry saw 50.7-percent more transactions in 2006 than 2005.

“System integration businesses that specialize in a specific industry, such as the health care, finance or the education market, are going to be in demand and realize higher valuations than a generalist in the market,” advised Mack. “These are the kinds of companies global strategics like UTC, Securitas Systems USA and Stanley Works want to acquire.”

The annual PSA event also included board meetings, an exhibition featuring around 90 vendors, an awards banquet, a hospitality suites gathering and lots of training. Attendees had their choice of a multitude of educational sessions, from first-time trainers such as those associated with IP-in-Action LIVE™ to CCTV guru Bob Wimmer, an SSI Hall of Famer who instructed for the 24th straight year at the PSA convention.
