How Wayne Alarm Won the 2020 SAMMY Award for Best Promo Giveaway

Wayne Alarm’s first-aid kit, packed with bandages, sanitation wipes, aspirin and a handy travel case, was a big hit with its community.

Wayne Alarm Systems President and CEO Ralph Sevinor launched his company in earnest in 1972 in the basement of his parents’ home. That rich legacy provided all the inspiration necessary when time came to come up with an idea for a promotional giveaway item in 2019.

The decision was made to return to the company’s roots, which is “life safety first,” explains Marketing Coordinator Nathan Raustad.

After brainstorming, they determined a first-aid kit would hit a nice balance between safety and practicality; small enough to store in a glovebox or purse, but important enough to want to hold onto.

Packed with bandages, sanitation wipes, aspirin and a handy travel case, the gift makes a seamless impression on a customer: Reinforcing the fact Wayne Alarm Systems is there when you need them most. The cost is roughly $4 per kit.

The company has gone through multiple orders of the giveaways, and to date they have distributed nearly 1,000 of them. It has proven to be one of the company’s more popular promo items through the years, which have included mugs, water bottles, keychains, cellphone wallets and calendars.

“We were definitely on the generous side when it came to distributing these first-aid kits. Initially they were part of our Wayne Alarm Systems canvas bag that would be left at the site after the sales appointment, but word definitely got out and their demand grew,” Raustad explains. “We ended up giving them away to local sports teams as well as customers requesting extra for their office and home.”

Sure, we live in a digital age when consumers across most all demographics prefer to get their information on their mobile devices, but the promotional giveaway continues to be an effective tool for brand awareness, Raustad says.

“Our clients love receiving the Wayne Alarm Systems canvas bag packed with our giveaways. The first-aid kits were an enormous hit because they had staying power. It is an item that can easily be stashed in an office drawer, the glove box of your car or your child’s sports bag,” he adds. “And when they do need it, they will remember Wayne Alarm Systems is there for their life safety.”
