Security Sales Guru Shares Inspirational Quotes for Business Leaders

Who doesn’t have a favorite quote? Plenty of folks actively feed on pithy turns of phrase for inspiration and motivation in their daily lives, both personal and professional.
Even the most successful and influential leaders among us find solace and vigor from simple phrases. Maybe it’s an aspirational reminder or a form of encouragement, sage advice, guidance, something revelatory or a pick-me-up amusing quip (see above for one of my favorites).
I recall standing next to Jerry Jones down on the field at Dallas Cowboys Stadium during a Stanley-hosted ASIS 2010 customer appreciation party when he mentioned this very topic. The ever brash Jones, as he shared informally to a group of security industry pros gathered around him, oftentimes relies on inspiring verse to rouse his inner passion and lift his self-confidence.
In the spirit of the New Year — this annual moment to seize control of our thoughts, think positively and set new goals — I want to share with you a random selection of inspirational quotes collected by Russ Ackerman, who currently manages residential and small business sales for the Jacksonville, Fla., branch of Bates Security.
Many of you know him well. For those that don’t, he is a security industry veteran (and newly published author) with an infectious, can-do attitude. A sales guru through and through, and an occasional SSI contributor, Ackerman is a teacher and coach at heart who believes possessing a success mindset is critical — maybe even more important than business acumen alone.
He’s also a staunch believer in the power of words to inform and inspire. So in 2014 Ackerman launched the “Ackerfactor Thought of the Day.” The idea originated as a result of trading emails with his children and grandkids. He would impart an inspirational quote penned by some notable individual or maybe he would share a particular thought of his own.
That all led to other friends and peers requesting to be included, and the eventual email list of businesspeople who receive the quotations most workdays to this day.
