To assist with career paths, the company has established and expanded Select University, its internal training department that also identifies ongoing employee educational opportunities.
Select Security more than doubled in size last year, and as the Lancaster, Pa.-based company also surpassed the 15-year mark in the spring since it was founded the adherence to following its three core values has never been more critical to Select’s success.
The abbreviated version outlining the mantra is to make Select Security a “compelling place to work, shop and invest,” according to Director of Marketing & Communications Joseph Mitton.
It’s a more tidy way of the company’s more formal definition of: showing respect and value for each and every team member; being fanatical about providing customer service; and improving efficiencies in its operations.
The three-pronged approach begins with what Select calls its Cascade Transformation Initiative, by which consistent processes and procedures flow from the corporate level to department level and down to individual level to determine areas of focus, create goals and measure success, and give all employees a clear understanding of how their individual roles can make an impact.
Internal referrals are rewarded with a bonus program, and last year nearly a quarter (24%) of its workforce was added in that manner. The company leans on recruiters who utilize social media, relationships with local organizations and educational institutions to attract new talent.
A bi-monthly onboarding class includes a three-day intensive introduction to the company, during which senior leadership outlines each department’s function as part of the Cascade goals.
