SIA to Host Annual National Capital Region Security Forum Charity Golf Tournament

Tenth annual charity tournament that benefits Kennedy Kriger Institute’s Center for Brain Injury Recovery set for Oct. 2.

SILVER SPRING, Md. – The Security Industry Association (SIANational Capital Region Security Forum (NCRSF) – a community of Washington, D.C.-area security professionals representing industry and government – will host its 10th annual charity golf tournament Monday, Oct. 2, at the Mount Vernon Country Club in Alexandria, Va.

Proceeds from the annual golf outing will benefit the work of the Kennedy Krieger Institute’s Center for Brain Injury Recovery to support traumatic brain injury research and care for children and adolescents and improve the lives of those affected.

The SIA NCRSF Charity Golf Tournament supports the work of the Kennedy Krieger Institute, an internationally recognized institution located in Baltimore and dedicated to improving the lives of children and young adults with pediatric developmental disabilities and disorders of the brain, spinal cord and musculoskeletal system.

The annual tournament has raised more than $500,000 in donations toward the center’s brain injury research, patient transition efforts from hospital to home and urgently needed wheelchairs.

“SIA and the National Capital Region Security Forum are proud to present the tenth annual charity golf tournament – in addition to being a fun outing, it has provided extraordinary support to the lifesaving work done by the Kennedy Krieger team,” says SIA CEO Don Erickson in the association announcement.

“I value the time I spent visiting the Institute last year and am proud that my family is again an event sponsor.  The security industry and our NCRSF community inspire me with continual efforts to give back, and I look forward to seeing the impact this year’s tournament will have,” he says.

Inside the NCRSF Charity Golf Tournament

The SIA NCRSF Charity Golf Tournament was established in 2014 to support longtime SIA NCRSF member David Sawczuk following his family’s life-changing rehabilitation experiences with the institute.

In 2007, Sawczuk’s son Benjamin – who was eight years old at the time – was struck by a car while riding his bicycle alongside a road. He suffered a traumatic brain injury and was in a coma for 23 days before undergoing months of extensive rehab therapy with the Kennedy Krieger Institute’s pediatric brain injury program and making a healthy recovery.

After completing inpatient rehabilitation at Kennedy Krieger, Benjamin Sawczuk attended the institute’s Specialized Transition Program, a neurorehabilitation day hospital, for seven months. He went on to graduate from high school, then college – exceeding all expectations and prognoses.

SIA NCRSF members and security industry professionals can get involved in this year’s tournament in the following ways:

  • Sponsor the event: Sponsorship opportunities are available at levels ranging from $100 to $10,000, with each level offering its own set of benefits.
  • Register to golf: Each participant can register individually or as a member of a four-person team.
  • Join the happy hour: Not a golfer? You can still support the event by joining us for after-golf appetizers, drinks and an awards reception.
  • Share the event: Spread the word about the golf tournament to family and friends by sharing the information in this announcement, the event webpage and/or this printable flyer.
