SSI, TMA Team Up to Establish the Monitoring Technology Marvel Award

The objective of the newly created Marvel Award is to honor innovations in central station technology. The inaugural winner will be announced at ESX 2018.

VIENNA, Va. — Security Sales & Integration will team with The Monitoring Association (TMA; formerly CSAA) in creating a new award program that honors innovations in central station technology.

The Marvel Award will be co-sponsored by TMA and SSI and coordinated by the TMA Technology Committee. The objective of The Marvel is to provide recognition for monitoring centers creating and/or using cutting-edge technology, and to raise awareness of these new technologies.

“This is an important award and program, not just for TMA members but for the entire electronic security industry. Security technology is moving at a faster pace than ever before in this industry and with that comes both challenges and tremendous opportunity,” says SSI Editor-in-Chief/Associate Publisher Scott Goldfine. “Monitored services and associated recurring revenue drives much of this technological shift. Central stations that explore and effectively execute on new technologies are not only setting themselves up for greater success and growth, but also delivering superior security, safety, operational and convenience solutions to their customers.”

And in the case of third-party wholesale monitoring providers, Goldfine continues, all those same benefits are being extended to security dealers. Companies recognized with the Marvel honor will be those leading the entire industry forward.

“Having worked with TMA for two years planning and laying the groundwork for this program, SSI is extremely proud to be its exclusive media partner,” he says.

TMA Technology Committee Co-Chair Steve Butkovich first announced the award at the recent 2017 TMA Annual Meeting in Scottsdale, Ariz. “We are pleased to team up with SSI to spotlight these innovators in our industry,” he says.

The Marvel will be presented to one overall winner for the “best adoption of new technology to advance your business.” Submissions can include implementations of the following categories:

  • video verification
  • PERS monitoring
  • technology to build efficiency in monitoring
  • cybersecurity
  • new business model
  • migration to the cloud

The winning monitoring center will be featured in a cover story that will be published in SSI’s August 2018 Monitoring Issue. Runners-up will also receive recognition in the article. The winner and runners-up will be recognized in front of their peers at ESX 2018 in June during one of the general sessions, as well as featured on the TMA website and in the TMA Dispatch newsletter.

“Technology is consistently mentioned as one of the most important challenges our industry faces. The Marvel winner will receive recognition as a leader within the industry as well as to customers,” says Butkovich.

Criteria for the award will be posted in December. Submissions will be accepted Jan. 15 through March 15, 2018.
