Ben Dickens, an attorney with the Alarm Industry Communications Committee (AICC), updated attendees on pending changes to net neutrality rules that could have a significant impact on alarm-monitoring services. Under the Republican-controlled FCC, a proposed reversal of net neutrality rules — in particular, Section 275 — threatens remote monitoring, data sharing, telehealth services and similar services that rely on high-speed Internet connection.
Dickens told the gathering from a consumer advocate standpoint, he would liken the proposed reversal as “the sky is falling.”
“Protecting Section 275 is of particular interest for the alarm industry,” he said.
