Women in Security Forum to Combat Food Insecurity With ‘CAN DO Challenge’
The CAN DO challenge is about alleviating hunger as part of the security industry’s collective commitment to human safety and well-being. Here’s how to get involved.
SILVER SPRING, Md. – As the holidays approach, the Security Industry Association’s (SIA) Women in Security Forum (WISF) has put together a campaign to address food insecurity.
WISF has put together a campaign it calls the “CAN DO Challenge,” which will be a two-week effort running Tuesday, Nov. 17 to Tuesday, Dec. 1, also known as Giving Tuesday.
The Can Do Challenge is focused on local giving and sharing via social media to inspire the security industry to step up to the challenge and make a difference.
To get involved, simply donate a “can” or “do” an act — whether it’s supporting food pantries, delivering meals or distributing care packages.
WISF provided a few examples where you can volunteer:
The organization’s goal is to mobilize the strength of the companies where its members work, along with the greater security industry as a whole, to make a meaningful difference in all 50 states.
Food insecurity is a major issue across the country, especially during the COVID-19 crisis. WISF says:
Food security is fundamental to our communities’ stability and well-being. If hunger increases by 1%, violent crime jumps 12%. The pandemic finds nearly 20% in the U.S. with food insecurity. Over six million people applied for food stamps between March and May 2020, the most massive three-month climb ever. And as members of WISF, we are keenly sensitive to the fact that food insecurity disproportionately affects women.
Visit the WISF CAN DO Challenge webpage to find resources to help socialize/email, links to volunteer close to home and a quick way to register your company if you want them to jump in too.
