DoorDash is using Cobalt robots to perform routine security tasks, including patrols for hazard and threat identification, perimeter control, security escorts, and alarm response.
The integration is said to allow businesses to better track where the robots are located and how they interact with people based on their credentials.
The financing was led by Coatue, a global technology investment firm, and is intended for geographic expansion of services.
Robots can be instrumental in providing security personnel with another set of eyes and ears in many locations and notify them of events.
The integration enables Cobalt security robots to pass through areas closed off by a door by transmitting a signal to the door’s access control reader.
Cobalt’s new leak and spill detection sensing technology enables its security robots to be programmed to detect a leak or spill within a predefined area.
Cobalt autonomous robots are said to have the capability to scan an employee’s or a visitor’s badge; detect open doors, water leaks, spills or intrusions, among other tasks.
With more than 60 sensors, the robot’s feature sets include navigating premapped areas in buildings, recognizing people and reading ID badges.
