NEW ORLEANS—In an effort to curb the false alarm problem, the New Orleans Police Department and the Louisiana Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (LBFAA) have asked Louisiana alarm dealers to pledge their commitment to its “Target Zero” False Alarm Prevention program.

The pledge consists of the following eight steps:

(1) My company will train all levels of our employees in the best practices for false alarm reduction and ensure that the principles of false alarm reduction are an integral tenet of the company’s mission.

(2) My company will designate a false alarm coordinator who will be responsible for the reduction program, serve as the point person for liaison with respective law enforcement agencies, and attend regularly scheduled meetings of the regional false alarm coordinator’s group.

(3) My company will have our daily activity report sent to our office from our central station.

(4) My company will have a designated employee to review the daily activity reports every day.

(5) My company will track individual customer dispatch numbers year-to-date to have an accurate account of dispatches for each respective customer.

(6) My company will have the false alarm coordinator contact each customer to review causes of dispatch and to offer solutions.

(7) My company will send a service technician or the false alarm coordinator to each customer who has reached five dispatches year-to-date to offer solutions that will prevent the continued reporting of false alarms.

(8) My company will track the “Target Zero” dispatch activation percentages as a way of reducing annually our rate of dispatch (Target Zero rate = police dispatches divided by accounts online).Source: False Alarm Network (FAN)
