Spencer, Mass., Alarm Owners Face Fines Under Ordinance

SPENCER, Mass.—The Spencer Police Department has created its own false alarm ordinance that will take effect July 1. Police officials circulated a flier to all of its residents detailing the ordinance.

The ordinance will require alarm owners to pay a $25 registration fee and a graduated fee structure for false alarms. Alarm owners will be exempt from any type of fine for the first and second false alarm. The third offense will cost $50; the fourth $75; and the fifth will cost $100. Alarms that sound due to inclement weather will be exempt.

However, if alarm owners fail to register their systems and have a false alarm, they will automatically be fined $100.
