These Are the Most High-Tech Airports in America
The most high-tech airports in the country include a combination of advanced security such as biometric scanners and lifestyle amenities.
When it comes to flying, security and convenience are often the two main concerns of travelers. In a world of terrorism and the Internet of Things (IoT), airports around the country are doing their best to appease these fears and desires.
Just this past year, we’ve seen a number of “airport security fails” occur. In early November, the Department of Homeland Security uncovered disturbing failures by the TSA during an undercover investigation at multiple airport security checkpoints.
On President’s Day, nearly a dozen people walked through an unscreened security checkpoint lane at John F. Kennedy Int’l Airport. During the summer, the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) failed 95% of undercover airport security tests conducted just prior to the heavily traveled Fourth of July weekend.
Despite these incidents, more and more airports have begun installing better security solutions. Dozens, such as the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, have installed biometric scanners for travelers to verify their identities.
Travelers also want amenities such as charging stations, free Internet and convenient food options.
AT&T Internet Service compiled a list of the most high-tech airports in America that feature all of the features and amenities above, plus many more.

DFW airport has done a remarkable job in getting American Airlines’ approval to upgrade the terminals. However, technology beyond the parking garages has been and continues to be slow coming. The toll booths getting into or out of DFW is the worst I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen a lot of toll booths. Roadways are decrepit beyond belief for a major airport. Another example is that charging stations only exist at 11 gates. Are you aware that each terminal (5 for now with a 6th one on the drawing board) has nearly 40 gates? Also keep in mind that American is the gorilla at DFW and unless American wants it or approves it, it simply doesn’t happen. SecurePoint Media out of Tampa has tried to upgrade security checkpoints with mood lighting, automatic wait time monitors, nice furniture to replace the government issue, etc, but to no avail. Much more needs to be done, everywhere, and those you’ve listed at other airports, e.g. free wifi, doesn’t even register on the technology scale.
