Retailer Installs 2GIG Security System After DIY Cameras Fail to Thwart Theft
A business owner turns to a local security company to install a professional security system after learning his DIY security cameras are no match for burglars.
CARLSBAD, Calif. — Residential products retailer Presidio Doors installed two DIY security cameras to monitor its 10,000-square foot warehouse and storefront. Unfortunately, those two cameras weren’t enough to thwart a large-scale theft operation.
The unexpected burglary took the Austin, Texas-based business months to recover from. To gain total peace of mind, owner Brian Wiest reached out to local security professionals True Home Protection to install a fully-monitored 2GIG security system.
“Wiest had footage of five thieves breaking in, ripping one of two cameras from the wall, and then spending three hours in the dark clearing him out,” explained True Home Protection Regional Manager John Jarvis. “The only information they had about the event was the timeframe that it took place in. With 2GIG — a comprehensive system that sends notifications to authorities immediately once a break-in is detected — this wouldn’t have happened.”

True Home Protection installed a 2GIG GC2 security panel equipped with Alarm.com software for remote management and custom notification configuration. It also added dozens of 2GIG window sensors, garage door tilt sensors, glass break detectors and motion detectors to provide thorough protection of the perimeter, and send instant notifications both to Wiest and the local law enforcement in the event of a break-in.
Due to the unique size and large shape of the business, wired sensors were not a viable option, which is why 2GIG wireless sensors were well-suited. According to Jarvis, one of the major benefits with 2GIG is that 2GIG wireless sensors eliminate any potential installation pain points that the space could have caused.
“Wireless sensors help cut down on install time for us, and cut down on cost for the customer, while providing exceptional coverage and peace of mind,” he added.
True Home Protection also installed four turret-style surveillance cameras with night vision technology, locating them strategically throughout the space, and configuring them to work with the 2GIG system and the Alarm.com backend.
According to Jarvis, 2GIG offers the best of both worlds in that it provides professionally monitored security while still being intuitive enough for anyone to use.
