Bethany, Okla., Fines Abusers Up to $200

BETHANY, Okla.—On Feb. 16, an ordinance went into effect that fines alarm owners up to $200 for three false alarms that occur in a month. This past year, the city received 1,655 false alarms, which cost approximately $30,000 to $35,000.

The way the current ordinance is drafted, police officers will be able to use their own discretion to determine whether a false alarm was truly an accident. A judge will then determine how much to fine a violator within the $200 maximum fine limit. Notices containing the new ordinance and how it will operate were sent to alarm owners before the ordinance took effect.Source: False Alarm Network (FAN)
