Brink’s Home Security Tech Earns National Award for Heroism from NBFAA
Brink’s Home Security announces that David Maikell recently was named Professional Alarm Technician of the Year. The technician was recognized for his heroic actions that saved an Arlington, Texas, family from a devastating tornado this past March. The national award was presented by Bart Didden, president of the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA), in New York on Aug. 27.
On March 28, Maikell was completing a routine service call at a customer’s home when he heard a roar of a tornado and saw a funnel cloud in the area. He immediately advised the homeowners, along with their teen-age daughter, to get into the bathroom for protection. Maikell made sure the bathroom door was secure by holding tightly onto its doorknob until the tornado finally passed. The tech then gathered tools from his truck and went door to door, turning off the natural gas lines to the houses in the neighborhood and made sure everyone was safe. Arlington police officers at the scene commended Maikell for his heroism.
