Consumers Reveal How They Feel About Home Security
A new survey breaks down peoples’ perceptions on home security by generation and location, as well as their feelings on DIY vs. pro security and more.
Porch, an online resource for home services, has released the results of its study that looks at homeowners and their perceptions on home security.
Porch surveyed a little over 1000 “urban, suburban and rural Americans across three generations.”
The research addresses questions integrators may have, like, “What is preventing certain homes from purchasing a security system?” and “Who is most likely to purchase a security system in the future?”
Overall, more than 55% of respondents said they did not rely on security cameras, an alarm system or a doorbell camera for security.
When it comes to different generations, millennials were more likely than baby boomers and Gen Xers to rely on a doorbell camera, while more Gen Xers than either generation reported using alarm systems and security cameras. The majority of baby boomers used none of those tools.
Check out some more key takeaways below, then view the slideshow to see additional results from the survey.
- Although 64% of Americans who installed their alarm system said it was easy, 56% have no security measures in their home
- 3 in 5 people say that price is the #1 reason why they don’t own a security system, while most baby boomers feel they live in a safe enough area where they don’t need one
- Looking to the future: 65% of Americans believe that all homes should have security systems in the next 10 years
