UL Big On Fire Safety at Minor League Baseball Game

MELVILLE, N.Y.

Underwriters Laboratories joined the Long Island Ducks minor league baseball team to promote a community Fire Safety Day at the team’s home field on July 15.

Based in Central Islip, N.Y., the team is a member of the Liberty Division of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, which is not affiliated with Major League Baseball.

UL employees volunteered to work tables inside and outside the stadium and distribute fire safety literature to attending fans. Radio Disney, a UL partner, broadcasted live outside the stadium before the game and promoted a joint “I Am Safety Smart” theme.

The safety literature included a variety of topics, including smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors, and information on developing a home fire escape plan. Information regarding UL’s recent fire research and public education activities were also distributed.

“We are consistently looking for ways to help promote safety not only from a global perspective, but also at the local level where we work and live,” says Richard Martin, who is an operations manager for UL in Melville, N.Y.
