Our Best Advice Q&A series continues with Adam Robinett, chief executive officer at Observation Without Limits (O.W.L.). He shares the best advice he’s ever gotten, gives tips to young security industry professionals and singles out the person to whom all others in the security industry should always listen.
Security Sales & Integration: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Adam Robinett: Don’t ask for advice unless you are willing to accept it.
SSI: What advice would you give to those looking to achieve success in the security industry?
Robinett: Find a “major” and “minor” in everything. The security industry is a vast arena. There is hardware, software, design, compliance, monitoring and many others fields I have left out. A security professional needs to figure out which area they want to focus on while being immensely curious about the others.
SSI: If you could point to one person in the security industry and tell up-and-comers, “Make sure to listen to what they have to say,” whom would you pick and why?
Robinett: Garret Langley, founder and CEO of Flock Safety. Garrett has built an incredible company that marries social responsibility with security. He has a unique ability to create a vision, articulate it such that the Flock employees can execute on it and the citizenry can understand it. He fearlessly addresses critics without being confrontational and heavy on facts.
