As we continue looking back at 2025 in the security industry through the eyes of some of the brightest minds and innovative thinkers, today we hear from Brandon Niles, vice president of 2021 and 2022 SSI Installer of the Year Acadian Total Security. We’ll share his predictions for what’s ahead in 2026 in a future post.

Security Sales & Integration: What kind of year has 2025 been for the electronic security and physical security industries?

Brandon Niles: In 2025, we saw real momentum in technological capability, driven by substantial advancements in CCTV technology that better prioritized the end user experience over the integrator’s perspective.

SSI: What has been the most surprising development in the security industry this year?

Niles: The shift toward manufacturers selling direct to clients has compelled many companies to re-evaluate their product portfolio for the first time in years with a greater push towards prioritizing solution-based wins over price competition.

SSI: What has been the most important change we’ve seen this year in security?

Niles: Companies are having their own IT departments get more involved with security, specifically CCTV, and pushing for more data driven solutions that solve a lot of new problem sets outside of security.
