Our Best Advice Q&A series continues with Cameron Javdani, vice president of market development, security solutions, for AtlasIED. He offers up the best advice he’s ever gotten, divulges his tips for security industry newcomers and names the person who inspires him most.

Security Sales & Integration: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Cameron Javdani: “Be yourself, everyone else is taken.” Being authentic tends to attract the right people and opportunities for you. And when you’re being yourself, you wont be comparing yourself to others and worrying if you measure up.

SSI: What advice would you give to those looking to achieve success in the security industry?

Javdani: It’s important to connect with people in authentic ways. There’s so much that’s AI generated, which means an in person conversation or phone calls instead of texts carry much more weight than in they used to. People can see authenticity in ways that email or social media don’t reflect.

So show up and be yourself … because everyone else is taken.

SSI: If you could point to one person in the security industry and tell up-and-comers, whom would you pick and why?

Javdani: Jake Voll with SS&SI Distribution. He’s growing a business by staying true to his vision and sharing his experiences doing it, both good and bad. He also shows how to be active in industry groups that break apart from the historical “I know a guy” ways.
