Our Best Advice Q&A series continues with Ewa Pigna, president of Honeywell’s Security and Access Solutions (SAS) business. She shares the best advice she’s ever gotten, gives pointers to security industry pros on the rise and singles out the person to whom all others should always listen.
Security Sales & Integration: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Ewa Pigna: The best advice I received is to “stay in your lane and play your position.” Every team has a designated role and ensuring we all have a key role to play and support each other, is what makes a successful team win
SSI: What advice would you give to those looking to achieve success in the security industry?
Pigna: Go deep in the various security domains – access control, video, intrusion – and understand how security is larger than managing people’s access. Security underpins business operations and understanding these use cases and outcomes promotes success as one grows in his/her career.
SSI: If you could point to one person in the security industry and tell up-and-comers, “Make sure to listen to what they have to say,” whom would you pick and why?
Pigna: I would recommend that new security professionals connect with industry legend, John Moss, founder of several very successful companies. Hearing his perspective on innovation, customer obsession, approach to product introduction and creating new markets, is very insightful and challenging many established norms. That’s what innovation is about!
