The Best Advice Q&A series continues with Gina Sansivero, vice president of marketing and corporate communications at AtlasIED. She shares the best advice she’s ever gotten, the advice she gives to others to help them boost their security industry profiles and whose words make her stop in her tracks.

Security Sales & Integration: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Gina Sansivero: Maintaining relationships can be difficult but is essential. Call people back, send a note, stay curious about someone else, set time aside for relationship maintenance like you would any other work activity.

SSI: What advice would you give to those looking to achieve success in the security industry?

Sansivero: Surround yourself with people from different parts of the industry, different backgrounds and identities, different genders, and different cultures. The more diverse the perspectives that surround you and from which you learn, the stronger you will be during difficult times and the more successful you will be during stable times.

SSI: If you could point to one person in the security industry and tell up-and-comers, “Make sure to listen to what they have to say,” whom would you pick and why?

Sansivero: Cameron Javdani. He was one of the first individuals I met in the security industry (through my colleague and friend Michael Peveler), and he was so welcoming, energetic, intelligent and warm. Beyond that, though, he was transparent, trustworthy and willing to share, which makes him a wonderful advocate for the industry.
