We continue our 2025 reflections series, which offers security industry leaders the chance to look back at some of the biggest happenings and developments in the sector, with John Nemerofsky, chief operating officer at SAGE Integration and chairman of the Foundation for Advancing Security Talent (FAST).

We’ll share John’s 2026 security industry predictions in a future post.

Security Sales & Integration: What kind of year has 2025 been for the electronic security and physical security industries?

John Nemerofsky: 2025 has been a year of learning as the industry continues to try to understand the significance that artificial intelligence will have on physical security. Over the last couple of years, we have seen a need to enhance training, education and technology deliverables, which is where FAST comes in, to prepare today’s students to be successful in the world of AI.

SSI: What has been the most surprising development in the security industry this year?

Nemerofsky: The push towards the convergence of physical and cybersecurity. The industry is coming to grips with the fact that the physical and cyber domains must converge if the sector is to combat daily internal and external threats that place our clients’ assets in jeopardy.
