Albany, N.Y., Police Respond to 12,000 Alarms in 2000

ALBANY, N.Y.—City officials report there have been more than 12,000 alarms that police and firefighters have responded to throughout the past year. They estimate that greater than 95 percent of those have been false. Currently, Albany is considering drafting a proposal that would have alarm owners register their alarms, along with fining repeat offenders.
