Q:I am having problems with false alarms in my PIR motion sensors from spiders and roaches. Do you have any suggestions?

A:Yes, here are some tips that have worked for me in the past. Make sure you do not use the knockouts if possible on the PIR case. Drill a hole that allows your cable to snuggly fit in. Make sure to take some RTV silicon and place around the cable in the drilled hole.

Another option is to get some no-pest insecticide strips and cut a one-inch piece and double stick on the inside cover before closing. This will make the PIR not smell very good to spiders and roaches. There is also another repellent call the Cobweb Eliminator. It is a pepper-type spray spiders hate. Spray it around the PIR mounting area. Check with your alarm distributor as some may carry these items.

Q:I have a CCTV muliplexer that I am having trouble with the cameras rolling. I have tried to solve the phasing problem by reversing the plug-in power supplies and they still roll. Do you have any suggestions?

A: You may have to look at adjusting the phasing of each camera. Each camera should have a phase adjustment pot on them. You will need to take the first two cameras and feed them into one monitor with a “T” adapter. You will get two pictures on top of each other. Adjust the phase of one camera against the other until the frames line up. Then, go to the next camera and do the same. This process is labor intensive, so make sure to check with the manufacturer for other alternatives before proceeding. It may be something as simple as having a good ground on the power connection of your switcher.
