News From Tyco Fire & Safety, Protection One, VTI Security and Dedicated Micros

Tyco Security Fleet Manager Wins Top Honor
Gordon Campbell, the director of strategic sourcing for Tyco Fire & Security, has been named 2004 Fleet Executive of the Year by Fleet Financials, a sister publication at Bobit Business Media to Security Sales & Integration. Campbell was responsible for merging the then-separate vehicle fleets of Simplex and Grinnell three years ago and he accomplished the feat in a mere 30 days. He is directly responsible for the more than 16,000 vehicles used by companies in Tyco’s Fire & Security group.

Protection One Moving Base of Operations
Protection Oneis moving its headquarters from Topeka, Kan., to a 15,000-square-foot former outlet mall in Lawrence, Kan. The security monitoring company’s Topeka offices were located within former owner Westar Energy Inc.’s headquarters. In February, Westar sold its stake in Protection One in an effort to reduce debt and restructure its business into a pure utility. The 24-mile move is expected to be complete by late November or early December, and 65 jobs will move to Lawrence, with 15 other employees expected to be added in the coming years.

Integrator Expands in Colorado
Burnsville, Minn.-based security integrator VTI Security, formerly known as VideoTronix Inc., is expanding its Colorado operations by opening a new 3,000-square-foot office in Colorado Springs. The office, which will include a demonstration room and stocked warehouse, will compliment VTI’s office in Denver.

Dedicated Micros Sets Partnership for Remote Video Monitoring
Dedicated Micros Inc. is partnering with National Monitoring Center (NMC) of Aliso Viejo, Calif., to integrate Dedicated Micros’ digital video multiplex recorders (DVMRs) with NMC’s central monitoring equipment. It will be the first monitoring station integration in North America for Dedicated Micros, based in Chantilly, Va. Dedicated Micros’ protocol will work with an application from Monitoring Automation Systems, a subsidiary of GE Infrastructure, Security. The application, called MASterMind™, allows the dispatcher to monitor and activate the DVMRs from the customer service representative stations. (for more on the use of remote video monitoring, see “ Perimeter Detection Gets Closer to Home.”)
